Romantic literature started during the mid-12th Century (â€Å"Romance,† par.1). Medieval romances are stories and plays in which kings, knights, and damsels in distress go on some sort of adventure (from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight from Morte d’ Arthur). In addition, medieval romances consist of heroic figures showing acts of chivalry. As the years have passed, medieval romance has been portrayed in numerous screenings and productions. The differences, similarities and stereotypic character traits displayed in the influence of medieval romantic literature on modern films are significant. Modern films are significantly influenced by the differences they have in contrast to medieval romantic literature. An example of the differences displayed in medieval romantic literature influencing modern film would be when Arthur â€Å"learns his illegitimate son, Mordred, has seized control of England† (Malory 185). This example shows the differences displayed in medieval romantic literature influencing modern film because in the story Le Morte d’ Arthur, Arthur was against Mordred, his illegitimate son, but in the film First Knight Arthur was against Malagant, â€Å"a dropout from the round table†.
